Syrian Idlib Offensive

Well, it seems someone got a little ahead of themselves yesterday.  Yes, a new Syrian offensive has opened in southern and eastern Idlib and a number of towns have been liberated from terrorist control, but not the ones I mentioned yesterday.  It is just a matter of time though.

I usually try to be careful where I source my information – generally ignoring the comment area of online posts, but this one slipped through my net.  It was backed by obviously mischievous Twitter posts.  Sorry about that.  I won’t let it happen again.  You wouldn’t want to have been in those towns yesterday though. They received a whole lot of incoming munitions to soften them up for attack in due course.

But the true picture is no less dramatic.  The SAA is advancing on several fronts and this linked article gives only a localised view of one area.  It seems the Syrian army has moved much of its forces from up north to concentrate efforts in this region – all courtesy of the newly liberated M5 highway – much easier to quickly relocate troops now.

Meanwhile, the Russian Aerospace Forces aircraft have indirectly attacked a Turkish military column moving into southern Idlib, forcing it to retreat.  Well, they were previously warned to stop interfering.

This report too of Russian airstrikes in support of the new Syrian offensive.

Syrian gains further south are seen in the image below (flag icons), mapped from Syria.liveuamap. The two towns I mentioned yesterday are covered by the two biggest clusters of bomb icons. It is easy to see where the SAA is headed. The M4 highway is just off map to the north.
